Transcona Railer Express History
Junior hockey in Transcona has roots back to 1972 with the Transcona Titans entered the Manitoba Major Junior League. In 1976 the Railers were conceived, the new name, new leadership, and a new league - Manitoba Junior B. Over 37 years of junior hockey in Transcona.
In September 2011, the former Transcona Junior Railers ceased operations after 34 years of existence. A group of 10 former Railer junior hockey players/alumni recognized this void in the community, formulated a business plan, and made an application to the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League.
On Saturday, January 7, 2012, the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League voted to accept a 'new' Transcona franchise for the upcoming 2012 – 13 season.
The non-profit board of directors of this Transcona Junior Hockey Club will strive to get junior hockey 'back on the rails', creating a positively first-class environment for young hockey players and fans of Junior Hockey in Transcona once again. Over 500 players have been part of junior hockey in our community and we hope to involve and engage them as supporters of this program for their children and all the children in Transcona.
The mission of the Transcona Major Junior Hockey Club is to “create a venue and opportunity for young players to foster their athletic skills as well as enhance their community spirit.” To resurrect pride in the Transcona Community for both young and old by providing a quality affordable program for competitive hockey players who are continuing their education or beginning their careers.
One of the most important aspects of this program will be the partnerships created in the community. This will be more than just a hockey program; it will be a community program benefitting both the participants of the club and the community as a whole. We are extremely pleased to also announce that Casera Credit Union, Silver Jeans, Dal's Restaurant, Goodfellow & Goodfellow Real Estate, HomeRun Sports, and Samuel Coil Processing have joined the Transcona Junior Hockey Club as major sponsors in our inaugural season, having truly similar beliefs in working in partnership to enhance and strengthen our community.
The Transcona 'RAILER EXPRESS' Junior Hockey Club is excited to involve 34 years of alumni and the community as a whole in providing a quality program to be part of and proud of for years to come.
