Rookie Sensation Austin Spicer Dominates with Four Points, Penner Stands Tall as Pembina Valley Ends Railers’ Winning Streak
In an electrifying showdown, the Pembina Valley Twisters snapped their nine-game losing streak with a dramatic 4-3 overtime win over the Transcona Railer Express, who entered the game on a seven-game winning streak. The Railer Express had bested the Twisters 4-3 in overtime in their last meeting, but Pembina Valley’s star rookie Austin Spicer and goaltender Darion Penner had other plans this time around.
Spicer led the offensive charge with a stunning four-point performance, including the game-winning goal in overtime. His quick scoring touch and playmaking ability proved too much for the Railers to contain, as he assisted on goals by Ty Sadowski and Slade Sotheran and netted two of his own. Sotheran's third-period goal, set up by Spicer, forced the overtime, keeping the Twisters alive in a fiercely competitive matchup.
Penner, on the other hand, was a wall between the pipes. Facing an onslaught of 51 shots, Penner’s stellar 48-save performance was instrumental in keeping the Twisters afloat. The Railers’ Sage Delaronde, the MMJHL’s October Goaltender and Rookie of the Month, struggled to contain the Twisters’ surge, ending with a save percentage of .862 on 29 shots.
Transcona fought valiantly, with goals from Jeremy Chateauneuf, Trey Sellen, and Nathan Turner, but Spicer’s OT heroics and Penner’s resilience secured Pembina Valley’s long-awaited victory. The season series is now even, with each team having claimed an overtime win, setting the stage for an intense third meeting.
